The library specializes in the investigation, documentation, preservation, and restoration of art objects, monuments, and archival material. The catalog is based on the Universal Decimal Classification (UDC), but there is also an alphabetical catalog on the authors' names. The catalogs include books, journals, reports, standards sheets, and patent literature whether present in the library or not. The features present are marked with a colored tab. The abstracts from <i>Art and Archaeology Technical Abstracts</i> form the basis for the catalogs. Separate catalogs are maintained for the books and the journals. The documentation in the Central Research Laboratory contains the complete files of all the objects and research projects on which conservation and scientific staff of the laboratory have been working. All photographic and audiovisual documents (black and white, color, transparencies, x-rays, infrared reflectograms, videocassettes) are kept in separate collections, with separate UDC-based catalogs. A summary of the main categories of the UDC in the domain of the laboratory is given in Appendix 1. Appendix 2 is a list of publications of collaborators of the Central Research Laboratory in the fields of study and conservation of leather and metals.
