Catalogue of an exhibition held at the Palazzo Ducale in Venice July 24-October 24, 1982. Preceded by an essay on glassmaking as an art in Venice and Murano and separate studies of this art in the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th centuries and up to the present times. A technical section describes what is glass, how it is made today, and how it was made in Murano in the past; it underlines the necessity of collaboration of the handicraft with modern technology because rising costs no longer allow an empirical approach to glass production.
