World War II left many sites of military preparation and action in the islands of Micronesia. Metal artifacts important to the interpretation of these sites corrode rapidly in the hot, humid climate. To alleviate the situation, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Australia, and the United States sponsored a metals preservation workshop and classroom instruction for a group of Micronesians with official concerns for site conservation. Limited funds and facilities required hand methods of rust removal and application of protective coatings. The course demonstrated experimental application of available equipment and materials. -- AATA
