Problems of assignment and localization gave rise to the investigation of stamped Greek amphora handles. The initial situation is more favorable than in similar attempts, because a great amount of the material in question contains distinct references to the production site. Initially the study was limited to a few vessels, but the investigation-to be complete-was extended to include other amphorae as well. Both the cluster and discriminant analyses, data obtained by neutron activation analysis, reveal a dense and distinguishable cluster in case of the Rhodian amphora handles. The main part of the Koan handles form their own cluster and are clearly separated from all others; where as those whose stamps indicate Thasian origin are collected by a somewhat heterogeneous cluster including the substantially denser group of Knidian handles. Several samples of doubtful or even unknown origin could be attached to one of the aforesaid groups.
