Abstract
Approximately 1,500 turquoise samples from archaeological excavations and ore deposits in the southwestern U.S.A., Mexico, Ecuador, peru, northern Chile and northwestern Argentinawere analyzed by means of an automated electron microprobe for 21 elements. The evaluation of the data proceeded with the help of cluster analysis, in particular the Ward's method and relocate procedures given in the CLUSTAN package. The results were checked and corrected with characteristic element combinations.
