Abstract
Fifty-nine Roman handles from jars from the 1st century A.D. Were analyzed. Different alloys were used: pure copper, tin bronzes with 5-10% tin on the average, lead-tin-bronzes with considerably varying amounts of lead (1-26%), pure brass with 5-25% zinc, as well as brasses with higher amounts of lead and tin. A clear dependence of the type of alloy on the technique of manufacture of these handles is obvious.
