Abstract
A review of dispersion in paint and in films; dispersion affects storage stability and optical properties of the dried film, strength of color brightness, gloss and gloss retention. The factors that affect dispersion -- physical properties of the pigment, the affinity of the resin molecules for the pigment surface, molecular weight and solubility of the resin -- are discussed, along with the stability of the dispersion during storage, application, and drying. Experimental work on dispersion of organic pigments is also included.
