Technical examination and art historical research indicated that The Archangel, received at the Intermuseum Conservation Association as a rectangular painting on fabric, was originally conceived and constructed as a shaped panel. Structural treatment of the painting involved mounting it on a hexcel aluminum honeycomb panel duplicating the original contours.
