Adequate terms must be chosen to record the knowledge of conervation in the arts. Four tables suggest a classification for basic materials in the arts, cardinal artifacts, degradation, and reparation. This attempt affords a means to avoid confusion and to furnish the field of conservation with accurate schemes of classification and may also promote the study of neglected problems.
