Abstract
An inscription dated 1794, found on the back of a carved Virgin and Child from Bohemia, proves that the statue was stripped of its original polychromy by Ignace Pieschel on that date. Chemical analysis has confirmed this: Prussian blue was found in the first layer and zinc white in the fifth one. Consolidation is described.
