More than two thousand pieces of textiles have been excavated from Hiberno-Norse habitation sites in Dublin (Ireland). Since sixty-five of the textiles appeared to be linked by similarity of weave types and perhaps of function they were selected for analysis as a group. The 38 wool and 27 silk textiles represented caps and other possible headcoverings and dated from the 10th and 11th centuries. It was found that the wool pieces are generally woven in a similar tabby weave, but that three types of tabby weave are represented in the silks. Details of weave, yarn and dimensions of the peces are given, and types of possible headcoverings discussed with line drawings.
