The September 1992 Round Table provided an important opportunity for laboratory scientists, technical experts, and preservation administrators to begin discussing areas of common interest and concern. Participants were frequently self-critical, views were often juxtaposed. But the conversations and controversies provided a common ground to begin working together. With each researh report given, with each question raised, responded to and remarked about, the challenges and complextiy of the field became more apparent.
