The museum is functioning as a large educational center. Within the museum, about 3,000 lectures are given for whole school classes, which come to the museum by public transportation. The lectures are given amid the museum objects and sometimes the objects are used for demonstration purposes. So far the museum occupies two former school buildings in which the maintenance of a satisfactory climate creates major problems. The store rooms are elsewhere in unsuitable cellars. The city council decided to build a new museum in which the climate and storage conditions will be optimized. The author's second topic pertains to the conservation of a camera collection. Antique cameras consist of diverse materials such as wood, leather, metals, cardboard, canvas, lacquer, paint, and rubber. Leather and canvas are the most vulnerable materials, and have to be treated first. Deacidification and application of a dressing preserves the leather; the canvas may be treated with glycerine, as may the rubber, in order to introduce moisture into the materials. After this the object can be handled again.
