Describes the climatic conditions at Paphos, as well as the problems encountered when monitoring them with portable but permanently installed small recording instruments, supplemented later with hand-held staff-operated but noncontinuous measuring instruments. The trends observed suggested that, rather than relative humidity or temperature changes, periodic wetting from rain, followed by severe drying, were the most active factors of deterioration, exposure and plant growth being the next. The phenomenon of capillary rise of salt-carrying moisture was deemed to be probably not as aggressive.
