Abstract
A copper sample was cleaned and oxidized in a UHV chamber and transferred, under vacuum, to a STEM. By using reflection microscopy, four types of oxide island could be observed. The largest islands were associated with large steps or facets indicating preferential nucleation or growth at these sites.
