Abstract
The application of materials ultramicrotomy to generate electron transparent sections of importance in corrosion studies is considered. The typical procedure allows revelation of the metal substrate and its interface with attached films of various kinds. Systematic studies allow direct insight into the morphology, composition, and structure (where appropriate) of films and their relationship to the metal substrate and the environment in which they developed.
