The proceedings of the First International Conference on Biodeterioration of Cultural Property held in Lucknow, India in 1989. The volume contains 49 articles dealing with various aspects of biodeterioration and is divided into five sections on the following topics: 1) common problems in museums, monuments, etc.; 2) biodeterioration of inorganic materials such as paper, textiles, library materials, etc.; 3) biodeterioration of inorganic materials used in monuments, buildings, etc.; 4) biodeterioration of paintings of various types, such as murals, paintings on paper, on canvas, and so on; and 5) general topics connected with the methodology of biodeterioration.
