As archaeological specializations become more developed, the need to obtain samples for micro-analysis becomes more necessary. A number of the techniques now in use are applicable either directly or indirectly to skeletal material. This article discusses the following topics as related to bones: blood grouping, nitrogen analysis, radiocarbon dating, inorganic analysis, hair on skulls, soil samples, photographing, labelling and numbering, packing and transport, gravels, chalk soil, cave earth, clay, sand, salt soils, cleaning bones, use of preservatives, pressure impregnation, and reconstruction of bones.
