Metal forming operations may be classified into four general groups, namely, casting, mechanical working, welding processes, and powder metallurgy. One or more of these processes may be used to produce a finished item. Each of the processes will be discussed in this booklet--which is part of a home study and extension course of the American Society for Metals--and the mechanics of operations and their metallurgical and engineering bases.
