Examination and treatment of a 1907 painting by Robert Delaunay at the Intermuseum Laboratory at Oberlin, Ohio, are described. Analysis includes a zinc white-oil medium ground, a blackline underdrawing, and individual brushstrokes with ground left exposed. The matte appearance of this unvarnished painting dictated a non-penetrating lining adhesive (PVA heat seal). A transparent lining with woven fiberglass was chosen for visibility of inscriptions on the reverse. Research uncovered the artist's choice of an unvarnished or waxed matte finished surface. A light spray of synthetic varnish and framing under Plexiglas were used to protect the painting. Photographs include ultra-violet fluorescence and infrared. -- AATA
