Abstract
A rereading of Vasari's account of his work in the Palazzo Vecchio led an American scholar to present a report in 1977 arguing that the lost Leonardo fresco of the Battle of Anghiari is on the west wall of the council chambers. After a series of non-destructive tests Italian authorities led by Giovanni Urbani are unconvinced. They state that there is insufficient need to remove the Vasari fresco on the west wall just to look for the Leonardo fresco. -- AATA
