Abstract
At the Danish National Museum's Conservation Department 2 in Brede, Copenhagen, a rapier with a gilt handguard was restored by means of electrolysis. Gold flakes were left in the sediment of the electrolytic bath. They were separated out from the rest of the sediment by means of a permanent magnet. The flakes were then washed, dried, and fixed to the guard with a transparent cellulose lacquer.
