The 5th-century BC Attic pottery vessel, which had undergone an extensive and misleading restoration in the 19th century, was disassembled and re-restored following modern standards. Many fragments from other pots had been incorporated into the missing parts and had to be removed. The old animal glue adhesive and the filling material were removed with water, the overpaint with organic solvents. Reassembly used acrylic adhesive, missing parts being, as far as possible, cast in plaster and glued into place. The plaster areas were inpainted in mat black with some mat orange, so as to be neither distracting nor misleading. See also <i>AATA</i> <b>27-978</b>.
