Abstract
Edgar Denninger was a chemistry and physics professor and director of the laboratory at the Institute for Painting Technology, State Academy of Fine Arts, Stuttgart, from 1949 to 1969. He developed a method for dating wall paintings containing albuminous binding media by means of paper chromatography based on the gradual disappearance of amino acids with the passage of time. He did not leave a comprehensive paper detailing his research results. The only publication of any of his work took place in South Africa. The posthumous paper cited here (and abstracted under his name) should inspire researchers to carry his findings further.
