Abstract
The 3000-year-old tomb of King Tutankhamen has wall paintings which have been severely damaged by bacterial growth. Visitors may number 2500 a day, and the resulting rise in humidity may be responsible for the growth of microbic colonies which have left numerous irreversible specks and blotches. Fhawky Nakhla is the director of restoration of the tomb.
