The 3000-year-old tomb of King Tutankhamen has wall paintings which have been severely damaged by bacterial growth. Visitors may number 2500 a day, and the resulting rise in humidity may be responsible for the growth of microbic colonies which have left numerous irreversible specks and blotches.
