Abstract
The influence of various types of red iron oxide pigments on the drying process of linseed oil film was studied. Drying curves were determined at laboratory temperature. The results show increases in the drying rate with increasing pigment concentration. The catalytic activity of pigment depends on the iron oxide content, on the surface size of pigment particles, and on the solubility of the pigment in the organic phase. An homogeneous as well as an heterogeneous catalytic reaction in the drying process of linseed oil can be hypothesized.
