Based on excavations in Nubia (1959-1969), classifies the ceramic wares of northern Nubia between the late Meroitic period (circa 200 AD) and the early Islamic period (circa 1600). Discussion includes ceramic industries and workshops; the technology of Nubian pottery manufacture; the social and economic background of Nubian and Egyptian industries; typological analysis of the pottery, including method of construction, fabric, surface treatment, vessel forms, color, and decoration; ware groups and descriptions; chronology.
