A discussion of the kinds of oriental rugs appropriate for display in American furnished historic structures and of the historically accurate placement of such rugs is followed by recommended procedures for their maintenance and care. Six steps for proper maintenance are listed: the relation of placement to wear; the environmental dangers of high humidity, excessive light and air pollution; outline of cleaning procedures with cautions including use of a screen in vacuuming and consulting a conservator in regard to washing; and mention of insect infestations with the advice to consult a conservator about fumigation. -- AATA
