Abstract
In the Itsukushima shrine, Hiroshima Prefecture, which thrived during the 12th century, there are a group of votive objects registered as National Treasures. They include some lacquer wares, each accompanied by a box bearing the date of Juei 2nd year (1183). The author discovered that the lacquer technique of hirame-fun (flat filings), which had been considered to be used in and after the 13th century, was already in use in the 12th century.
