Abstract
Bronze sculpture has been deteriorating rapidly during the last 50 years. Problems en-countered in restoration work include the composition of the bronze itself, surface treatments, and past restoration work. The prime corrosive agents and their mechanisms are discussed. Treatment of such bronze sculpture involves defusing the surface electrolytic charges. The ideal protective coating displays minimal thickness, ease of removal, ease of application, and adequate durability and stability. Any treatment must provide for a reasonable and effective maintenance program. See AATA 19-956.
