To consolidate the paint film on illuminated parchment, tests were carried out on samples of painted parchment to observe the effect of pure polymers. The solvent used influences the degree of penetration of the polymer. The best aesthetic effect is obtained with methyl cellulose dissolved in methylene/methanol chloride. Unfortunately, cellulose acetate produced a whitish layer in any penetration. Flexibility on stretched and on non-stretched parchment of the polymers was also measured.
