Abstract
Robert Fieux, a conservator in Massachusetts, uses for linings a fiberglass cloth Fabri-Sil which is coated with Teflon TFE fluorocarbon resin and with a fully cured, cross-linked silicone adhesive on one side. A Lectroplaque electrostatic hot table is used in conjunction with stretchers for linear tension. No vacuum is utilized. Moisture and dimethyl formamide are used to soften the paint, with Mylar polyester film as a vapor trap. Azeotropes of Freon TF, acetone, and methylene chloride are employed as solvents in varnish removal. A silicone adhesive is used for local consolidation. -- AATA
