Abstract
A systematic review is given of problems connected with preferences and objections concerning the choice of sewing or gluing procedures in the treatment of old textiles. The conclusion is that either system may be gentle or drastic depending on circumstances. Decisions in favor of one or the other technique should be free of personal prejudice and based more on the actual needs of the object. In many cases the most effective technique is a combination of both procedures.
