Abstract
The examination of a peculiar type of bronze hatchet found in southern Germany revealed traces of tools which normally are used for shaping wood. From this it seems probable that a wooden model was made, which was surrounded by clay to get a mold, which was then filled with bronze after the removal of the wooden model. The toolmarks in the wood, impressed in the clay mold, would be duplicated on the surface of the bronze object. -- AATA
