Abstract
Describes in detail some folk paintings in wooden churches in the Tisa basin; these date from the 12th and 13th centuries. Dates were determined from stylistic analyses and research into the history of the buildings. Iconographic and ideological features of the paintings as well as their relation with Ukrainian modern art are discussed. Traditions of Old Russia are traced. Examples of painting restoration are described.
