Abstract
Phosphates are present in all proteins -- especially in blood and bones. Because phosphates remain easily detectable in soil, phosphate analysis of soil samples has been used in the location of archaeological sites. The British Museum has used a very efficient analytical method which utilizes the reaction of phosphates with molybdenum salts at a number of English sites, some of which are discussed. -- AATA
