Abstract
The Conservation Analytical Laboratory's work in literature searches and analyses during the last year is summarized. A thesaurus has been developed to cover the entire field of conservation and museum activities. Projects undertaken during the past year by individual staff members are briefly described. Studies leading to long-term research are also identified, such as the behavior of hygroscopic salts in porous materials. Incralac had been applied to bronze statuary ca 1972; considerable chemical alteration of the polymer or absorption of pollutants has resulted in a degraded varnish which is difficult to remove; further work evaluating its use is in progress. Dating projects and problems encountered by the Archaeometry Section are presented. The National Museum Act continues to support research and projects concerned with the care and preservation of many of the collections. Activities of other departments are also noted. -- AATA
