Abstract
This paper describes briefly the techniques of hot drip tinning and mercury gilding which were in use in the Early Medieval Period and discusses previous literature on the subject. A technique is postulated by which the Anglo-Saxons were able to both tin and gild adjacent areas of the same piece of metal. See also 15-822. -- AATA
