Abstract
Weathering processes are affected by all kinds of environmental change. The wall of a building may display the most varied types of stone deterioration side by side to one another. Destruction can be traced to influences of temperature and humidity from the environment. The efficiency of all causes of stone deterioration is governed by the complex interdependence of climatic parameters. Each small surface is characterized by its own microclimate in terms of temperature, humidity, and air flow. The natural variations of the microclimatic parameters were analyzed by recording the cycles of diurnal temperature and relative humidity. The measurements indicate that the innumerable patterns of temperature and humidity variation on a wall result in a wide spectrum of damages to the façade.
