A large drawing was executed in 1972 using Prismacolor® pencil on acrylic gesso-prepared photographic backdrop paper. It was designed to be hung by folding over the top and inserting a wooden dowel. When not on exhibition, it was rolled, face outwards on a large roll. In 1986, it clearly needed treatment for structural weakness in the area of the fold, and also because masking tape placed on the back to secure the fold and strengthen edges, had deteriorated. A detailed description is given of the removal of the tapes from the reverse and repair of the edges. Two new fabric strips were to be attached, top and bottom, and the properties of potential adhesives for this purpose were considered. Adhesives tested (100°C for four days) and examined included wheat starch paste (zin shofu), Beva film and flock, acrylic and vinyl acetate dispersions. Rhoplex AC33 was chosen for heatset application, together with Beva film.
