The use of stratigraphy has given new life to studies on Ligurian pottery which, owing to thesmall number of vases surviving complete, was limited to old-fashioned typological studies. The late Middle Ages and Renaissance are particularly interesting in this respect. Archival documents on the production of Ligurian majolicas in the second quarter of the 16th century are confirmed by the new evidence. The morphology and decorative types of the majolica up to the beginning of the 18th century are discussed. -- AATA
