Abstract
The author investigated the 3200-year-old tomb of Nefertari in Egypt as a member of the project for investigating its deterioration. The annual average temperature in the tomb is about 26-29°C and the humidity 30-40% RH. Several spiders, a larva of the common cockroach, and a silver fish were found in the tomb. <i>Attagenous</i> sp. and * 2Tragoderma*1 sp. were also found in the ecdyses of Dermestids collected. In addition to salt deposition on the wall paintings, blackening of blue pigment was found on the ceiling. From samples of the blackened part and small specimens of plaster taken from the floor five strains of the <i>Aspergillus</i> belonging to the absolute tonophile fungi and each one strain of <i>Eurotium</i> sp. and * 2Penicillium*1 sp. were found. The author suggests that the absolute tonophile fungi may be the cause of the blackening phenomena. Before the investigation, from the atmosphere in the tomb, fungi of * 2Acremonium*1 sp., <i>Aspergillus</i> spp., <i>Emericella</i> sp. and * 2Penicillium*1 spp., and bacteria of <i>Bacillus</i> spp., <i>Micrococcus* 1 spp. and actinomycetes were found, and after the investigation many organisms of * 2Cladosporium</i> spp. were found which were brought in from the outside. -- AATA
