Three optical brighteners were incorporated into separate samples of a commercial linseed oil paint and, after storage in the dark, panels coated with these paints were evaluated spectrophotometrically and visually. The samples containing the optical brighteners achieved a smaller yellowness index than did the paint without optical brightener; in addition, each of these samples appeared less yellow to the human eye than did a paint with the same yellowness index but not containing an optical brightener. -- AATA
