The bronzes from the Budsene Weel, Denmark, now kept in the National Museum, Copenhagen, dated to about 600 B.C., show small black spots resembling flyspots, occurring in great numbers in groups or scattered on the surface on bronzes otherwise uncorroded. X-ray diffraction and chemical analyses indicate presence of CuS in the spots. During a preliminary microbiological examination, a copper-sulfate-tolerant mold of the cladosporium family was isolated. This type of microbiological attack has been found on a number of bronzes in other museums in Scandinavia, Germany and England. -- AATA
