Discusses bark papermaking techniques in contemporary use by the Otomi Indians and describes indigenous uses of the paper and its relationship to Otomi rituals. The first part of the article summarizes how the paper is used in various ceremonies conducted by the village shamans. A detailed description of the papermaking process is provided. A brief section on the plants used notes a change from the traditional wild fig (amate), supplies of which are now severaly depleted, to other plants like the <i>Jonote</i>. A final section covers paper sheet sizes, paper colors, and paintings done on the completed papers. -- AATA
