Pieces of fabric dating from the Danish Ertebolle period were found at the underwater excavation near Tybrind on the island of Fyn. The plaited rope and cords and small pieces of material made from vegetable fibers stitched in a needlebinding technique have been Carbon-14 dated to 4200 BC. They are the earliest European textiles found and the only known ones dating from the hunting area. The binding was made over an extra set of threads. The pieces were found close together and may have belonged to a single large garment, perhaps a coat or a cape. -- AATA
