The protection and restoration of wooden vernacular buildings pose some special problems in the Soviet Union: buildings to be preserved are scattered over a very wide area; it is impossible to restore the original functions to these constructions. After reflecting on these problems, the author focusses on two techniques for protecting wooden structures: the panel method and the irrigation method. -- AATA
