Abstract
The adsorption of positively charged polymer particles onto wool fibers from an aqueous dispersion has been investigated under various conditions. The effects of pH, electrolyte, and non-ionic and charged surfactants on the rate of adsorption are reported. Desorption of polymer particles under the influence of surfactants and pH changes has also been studied. The results of both adsorption and desorption experiments are explained in terms of the DLVO theory of heterocoagulation together with steric effects arising from the presence of adsorbed surfactant molecules.
