THis handbook is addressed to those museum professionals who serve on visiting committees for the Accreditation Commission. It is intended to serve as a convenient reference on the accreditation process generally and the roles and responsibilities of the visiting committee specifically. In outline form, accreditation invloves the museum in self- study, the visiting committee in peer review, and the Accreditation Commission in analysis and decision. The visiting committee's evaluation is thus a key element in both a sound accreditation decision and a sound accreditation program.
