Abstract
Paint and lacquer containing mixtures of melamin, phthalic and alkyd resins, linseed oil with tung oil, and cellulose nitrate were spread on metal plates or on paper discs. Fungi growing on these coatings were isolated and identified. The effectiveness of several fungicides was tried against the most active kinds: <i>Aspergillus niger, Aspergillus <i>amstelodami, Penicillium decumbens and <i>Trichoderma sp. No single fungicide was effective. Considerable protection was obtained with a mixture of phenylmercury acetate and salicylanilide, and to a lesser extent with phenylmercury acetate and zinc pentachlorophenate, incorporated in the coatings. -- AATA
